Proven Techniques
Spoons & Spinners
Classic pike baits that trigger aggressive strikes. Cast to weed edges, points, and shallow bays. The flash and vibration are irresistible to pike.
Topwater
Explosive surface strikes are a pike specialty. Buzzbaits, poppers, and walking baits create heart-stopping action, especially in shallow water.
Jerkbaits & Crankbaits
Work these lures with erratic retrieves to trigger reaction strikes. Excellent for covering water and locating active fish.
Live Bait
Large minnows under a bobber or on a quick-strike rig are deadly. Fish them near weed beds and structure for consistent results. Note: Smelt and other baitfish are not permitted on Pipestone Lake.
Seasonal Patterns
Spring (May-June)
Post-spawn pike are aggressive and hungry. Target shallow bays, weed beds, and rocky points. This is prime time for trophy pike as they recover from spawning.
Summer (July-August)
Pike move to deeper weed edges and structure during the day. Early morning and evening provide excellent shallow water action. Topwater fishing can be spectacular.
Fall (September-October)
Pike feed heavily before winter. Large fish move shallow to feed on baitfish. This is an excellent time for numbers and size as pike are extremely aggressive.
